It took me so long to sit down and write this blog post. This is the type of product that is so difficult to test out, because you have to be consistent, but in order to be consistent you have to have a lot of free time. I have a true love and hate relationship with Philips Lumea IPL, because when I use it constantly I see improvement, but when I miss one treatment it is like I go back completely and it is like I never used this product before. I got Philips Lumea IPL from my mother in law, so I haven’t spent money on this myself. I know these IPL are quite a lot of money, I see people selling them all the time on fb marketplace and I see why. In this blog post I will try to really explain what makes this product good and what makes it so bad that sometimes it is extremely frustrating. Also I will tell you if this product is worth the money or not. So let me share my opinion and full review on Philips Lumea IPL.
I have an older version of Philips Lumea, so I’m not sure how it compares to the new, updated versions. It might be that newer Philips Lumea IPL are better, but I see so many of them on selling groups, so it makes me feel like most people are not too happy with these machines. I have Philips Lumea Essential that can be used for the body and face. I like the design of this one a lot more than other Philips Lumea IPL because newer ones look very bulky while this one is sleek and very easy to use. I will say that this one gets hot when I use it, so I have to take breaks while doing treatment, but to be honest I would take breaks even if this machine doesn’t get hot as treatment lasts so long and I get tired doing it. I used Philips Lumea on my legs, upper lip and under arms. For those three areas it takes me around 4-5 hours to do them properly which is a lot, I really need to take a day off to do nothing else but make food and do this treatment. It gets so exhausting, annoying and incredibly frustrating to keep pressing this machine and move it slowly. If you have a super busy life and can not take a day every two weeks to do this type of treatment this product is not for you.
Philips Lumea review
You are supposed to use Philips Lumea IPL every two weeks for initial 4-5 treatments and then move to the touch up phase that you do every 4 weeks. Now for me this didn’t work, the only way I see progress with this IPL is if I use it every two weeks. Whenever I move to the touch up phase, almost all of my hairs start growing back and it’s like I never did any treatment. That is extremely frustrating, because you waste so much time doing treatments to just go back to the beginning. They say that in between treatments hair is supposed to fall out naturally and regrowth is inhibited. This is not true, my hair never feel out, some regrowth was inhibited, but areas that you maybe didn’t do well and precise hair grows as fast as before.
Also on the box they say that legs take 8 minutes to do, which is laughable. Legs take hours to do properly, because you have to do them properly, if you don’t you won’t see any progress. They also claim that under arms take 1.5 minutes which is also crazy, under arms take at least 5 minutes. I do have to mention that my hair is dark, skin light, it is suitable for this machine, so that is why I expected far better results from the ones I got.
Philips Lumea review – is it worth the money?
Is Philips Lumea IPL worth the money? Answer to this question takes some explaining! I feel like if you are patient, and can make free 4-5 hours every two weeks to do treatment then this product might be great for you. I do like using this treatment because it helps my legs stay smoother for longer, so I can shave with a razor once a week. That still defeats the purpose of Lumea IPL, because you are supposed to completely give up shaving because your hair is supposed to stop growing. For me that didn’t happen unfortunately, I still have areas on my legs that hair grows in, growth is slower, but still hair grows. If I didn’t get this product as a gift and I spent my money on it, I would be very disappointed. I still am quite disappointed with this product, because I expected far better results from Philips Lumea IPL.
I also have to mention that they claim that this is supposed to be pain free, but that is not really true. It happened to me that I get burned sometimes when I use this one, it mostly happens on my under arms. It might be because skin is more sensitive there, but it can be quite painful when you get these burns, it is like little burn shock for lack of better words. I personally don’t think that Philips Lumea is worth the money, I would not buy this IPL myself. It didn’t give me the results I expected and I really tried to test it well. I feel like if for my hair touch up phase would work I would recommend this product. But the fact that I have to use this one every two weeks to see differences and be consistent like that, it is crazy, so much time needed to make this treatment work. It is definitely not worth time, money and consistency for the results I got.
